~을 찾다 / look for와 find의 차이점을 알아 봐요.

 

1. look for와 find의 차이

다음 대화를 보면 영어에서는 look for와 find로 구별해서 써야 할 것을
우리말에서는 모두 '~을 찾다' 하나로 다 통합니다. 
 

a. 나 자동차 키 잃어버렸어. 그래서 찾고 있는 중이야.
b. 어디다 뒀는지 잘 생각해 봐. 무턱 대놓고 찾으면 시간만 낭비해.
a. 응, 알았어. 요즘 내가 정신이 없네. 
b. 너 자동차 키 찾았니?
a. 응, 청소하다가 찾았어. 탁자 밑에 있더라고.
퇴근하고 집에 돌아온 후, 너무 더워 에어컨 켜고 선풍기 틀고
탁자 옆에 앉아 쉬었는데 그때 그 밑에 뒀나 봐!

a: I lost my car key. I’m looking for it right now.
b: Try to think carefully about where you put it.
You'll just waste time if you randomly look for it.
a: Yeah, got it. I’ve been so out of it lately. 
b: Did you find your car key?
a: Yeah, I found it while I was cleaning. It was under the table.
When I got home from work, it was so hot.
So I turned on the AC and the fan. I sat next to the table and relaxed,
and I think that’s when I put it there! 

 

 

2. 양자의 차이점

 
1) 'look for~'는 '아직 내 수중에 없고 뭔가를 찾아보는 중일 때(찾던 물건을 발견하기 전에)' 써요.
2) find는 찾고 있던 것을 발견했을 때 써요.

a. Oh, Where is my phone? Where did I put my phone···?. I don't know where it is. Where could it be?  아 내 폰이 어디 있지? 내가 폰을 어디다 두었지? 그게 어딨는지 모르겠네. 어디 있을까? 
 
b. Hey! What are you looking for? Are you looking for something? 야, 너 뭐 찾고 있니? 뭐 찾고 있는 중이야? 
 
a. Yeah, I'm looking for my phone. I don't know where I put it. 응, 내 폰을 찾는 중이야. 그걸 어디다 두었는지 모르겠어. 
 
b. Hey did you find your phone? 너 폰 찾았니(발견했니, 발견해서 수중에 넣었니)? 
 
a. Yeah I found it. It was in my pocket. Funny huh? 응, 찾았어(발견했어). 내 주머니에 있었더라고. 웃기지? 
 
b. Wow, you're losing it these days, aren't you? 와, 요즘 아주 정신줄 놓고 다닌다, 너. 안 그래?

개역개정 성경에 보면 '찾는 자가 적음이라'라고 되어 있는데, 오늘 영어로는 find라는 단어가 사용되었음을 처음으로 발견하였습니다.
